Screamin’ Gator Zip Line

1 Feb

On Sunday I had my first Zip Lining experience! We went to Gatorland and rode on their Screamin’ Gator Zip Line and it was a blast!

First we got to watch a funny safety video, then our guides helped us get into our safety gear! Here we are:

Me, JC, Danny and Mom ready to go!

Don’t we look hot? I may have possibly been a little worried…

Next we walked through the park (like Astronauts or something) to the first tower. We got to pose for a picture before making the climb. Here is the whole group:

Ready to go!

The Gatorland Screamin’ Gator Zip Line is 1,200 feet long (total) and at the top is 65 feet over hundreds of gators and crocodiles!

We all had a lot of fun!

Here is JC doing a superman pose:

Look at those hungry hungry gators!

Me flying backwards out of the second tower

I would highly recommend the Zip Line at Gatorland. I had a blast! The guides were hilarious and we were flying over GATORS! Check it out if you get a chance!

My dad is afraid of heights, so he did not partake in the zip lining, he was caught in a picture or two!

There is dad watching JC fly!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

18 Jun

Today is the grand opening of the newest island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. You may have heard something about it. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Luckily, since I live right down the street from Universal and have a pass I’ve already been there! Twice actually!

The first time we visited was Saturday afternoon. JC and I were going to Islands of Adventure to ride some coasters (not expecting WWoHP to be open) before seeing Train in concert (Train was amazing BTW). On our way over to Dueling Dragons Dragon Challenge we noticed people walking through part of the Wizarding World and we got giddy. We rushed over and got in! Dumb me didn’t bring his camera, but luckily we went over on Monday (while my car was being fixed) and I took some pictures.

Snow...In Orlando!

This should not be confused with my post about Intimidator 305!

Cedar Fair has opened TWO new coasters on the East Coast with the Dale Earnhardt Sr “Intimidator” theme this summer and both look amazing! Intimidator was built by B & M (Bollinger & Mabillard) at Carowinds in Charlotte, NC. Intimidator 305 was built by Intamin at Kings Dominion in Doswell, VA.

Since I posted a vid of 305 it is only fair that I post one of Intimidator:

Check past the break for a bonus video!

EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival 2009

21 Mar

On Thursday mom and I went to the 2009 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival and just like last year, I took LOTS of photos! For whatever reason the day we went EPCOT was PACKED! I’ve never seen over an hour wait for Spaceship Earth before and I would never wait that long for that ride, but people were doing it!

I am going to start out with something that I found at the festival, but not necessarily related to it. A while back I went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios by myself and I saw a guy wearing an awesome hat. It was white with Donald’s feet sticking out of the top. So its similar to the Mickey ears but Donald always ends up upside down. I checked the shops and nothing. I talked to some friends, cast members, former cast members and everyone told me they had never seen nor heard of such a thing. I searched all over Downtown Disney and all over Magic Kingdom’s gift shops. At this point my mom thinks I’m crazy! While walking around EPCOT in the afternoon we passed the gift shop on the bridge between Future World and The World Showcase and this guy was trying it on. I saw it at a distance and bolted. Looking through this hat shop and NOTHING, only the one that the guy had put back on the counter. Mom is calling me crazy (because she still hadn’t seen it). FINALLY the guy leaves and I grab it and say I want it.

The girl laughs because they had JUST gotten a bag of these hats and she had just started putting tags on them. The other cashier had never even seen it before. Best part, the “novelty” hats were all 20% off, so now I have it!

The hat!

Busch Gardens Tampa History!

21 Oct

This isn’t going to be much of a post, but I wanted to share a website I found while surfing the other day. This website documents the history of Busch Gardens: The Dark Continent Tampa Africa with a lot of REALLY great pictures. These pictures start out with just the small airport that was in the area prior to the brewery being built. I’m not going to steal the pictures to put them here, so just go to the site and spend a few minutes reading and looking.

I love the HUGE elevator they built AND the fact that you can see the (still standing) Hospitality House and its crazy roof line in the background.

On a sad note there is a great shot of the Python which was recently removed for Jungala. It is quite amazing what that park is today after starting out just as a brewery. It is too bad that the brewery isn’t there anymore.

Enjoy this “Web Gem!”

Aquatica: A Burning Cabana

28 May

Yesterday I went to Aquatica(Sea World’s Water park) with the family and some friends. I’ve been to Aquatica 3 or 4 times now and LOVE the park, but this time my mom decided to rent two Cabanas. This was the first time we went the “Big Kahuna” route. These cabanas are in a private area of the park overlooking the wave pools. You get some free soda, water, a free locker and a discount on food/merchandise around the park. The biggest plus for the cabana’s is the crowd, or lack thereof. The beaches around the wave pools get PACKED! I really REALLY loved the cabana and if you are going and have the extra cash to spend, I recommend it highly!!

Our party consisted of my mom, dad, sister, her hubby, Christine (who works with my mom), Christine’s 8 year old daughter Georgia and me. For most of the day I ended up being Georgia’s ride partner. Since everyone else was either old or found the 80+ degree water too cold I was left chasing the lil one around. Don’t get me wrong, it let me ride the slides a lot more and I had a lot of fun. It really wasn’t until we were leaving that I really began to feel the effects.

First, I apparently failed in my attempt to reapply sunblock in the middle of the day:

Sun Burn!

Second, my muscles are sore. I think I underestimated the toll on my body that would be swimming laps around the “lazy” river or spending 20+ minutes in the wave pool at a time! At the time I felt fine, I even enjoyed it. This morning, not so much. That 8 year old girl kicked my ass!

My only consolation is that today is my sisters birthday and we are going to Kobe Steakhouse tonight!

All New Thrilltacular Upsy-Downsy Spins-Aroundsy Teen-Operated Thrill Ride

6 May

“Simpson’s did it!” – Dougie as General Disarray (South Park)

Universal Studios Orlando is in “soft opening” for its newest attraction “The Simpson’s Ride” and I got to ride it a few times this past week. It officially opens on the 15th, but has been up and running for the past couple of weeks. The ride takes the place of the old Back to the Future ride, which was a great ride in its hay day, but had become a very rough and battered version of itself. The new ride is very similar to the old one, the buildings have basically just been repainted/re-themed and new technology added here and there to update the old classic. I think they did an awesome job of re-theming and as a huge fan of The Simpsons I think it is awesome! There even is a Kwik-E-Mart next door selling Duff Beer Energy Drink.

Yes, you enter through Krusty’s mouth!

WARNING: Some Spoilers may be contained below.

So if you have ever ridden BttF, then you know its one of those simulator rides with a HUGE screen surrounding you. In the ride you are about to ride the “All New Thrilltacular Upsy-Downsy Spins-Aroundsy Teen-Operated Thrill Ride” at Krustyland when escaped mad man Side Show Bob shows up to take down Krusty, and kill the Simpsons! ::GASP::

The ride is really “upsy downsy” as you fly/float/ride through the world of theme parks including a short ride on “Captain Dinasaur’s Pirate Rip Off” (a very good digital rip off of a certain popular Pirate ride in another park, only with Dinosaurs) and a ride on the back of a large killer whale!

The ride took shots at not only the other theme parks, but also at Universal as you crash through a “SEND UNIVERSAL MONEY” billboard in the middle of Springfield. These kinds of small jabs is why I love The Simpsons and this ride. But there is more to love then just what takes place on the ride, and since I don’t want to spoil the whole thing for you, I will concentrate on the other stuff.

The re-theming includes brand new HUGE plasma monitors throughout the cue line showing “Krustyland Favorites” and new informational/safety videos from the owner (Krusty) and chief of security (Chief Wiggam). The new videos are drawn in 16×9 format to fit the wide-screen monitors beautifully, but of course the old Simpson’s clips are in standard 4×3. So did the designers take the opt out by stretching the old clips? Or did they black bar the screen? NEITHER! I was thrilled to see they decided to frame the 4×3 picture (keeping intact its original screen ratio) with what looked to be the Simpson’s own TV! Very creative and a small detail that I immediately noticed and appreciated!

The Krustyland Favorites clips included the great Bort license plates and the Duffland “It’s a Small World” ripoff with small children from around the world drinking Duff Beer! I also enjoyed the clip of Surly (one of the 7 beers) “Surly only looks out for one person…SURLY!” and other CLASSIC Simpsons clips.

The new clips were great as usual and included a very nice nod to BttF. Professor Frink arrives at Krustyland and is distraught when he finds his beautiful Institute of Future Technology is gone so he goes “Back to the Future! And by future I mean past” only to accidentally cause the end of the IFT leading to Krustyland!

There are a lot of elements within the ride and outside of it that make it a great experience, but you’ll just have to go for yourself!! I said go! I’m waiting!
