My Perfect Valentine!

16 Feb

Monday was an amazing Valentine’s Day with the love of my life ,Jenny Cate! We did dinner and a movie and exchanged very similar presents!

Dinner was at Seasons 52. Wow! I absolutely love that place! This was actually our third visit in the past couple months. The first was just a date night and was JC’s first visit. Then we went for my mom’s birthday. I had something different each time and can’t complain about a single item on any course. They were all delicious!

Alice in Wonderland in ETX 3D Review

17 Mar

Over a week ago the family, JC and I went to see Tim Burton’s new Alice in Wonderland in ETX 3D. What is ETX? Well, it is AMC’s attempt at an IMAX killer. It’s a 20% larger screen with extra audio channels and power, just like IMAX. The main difference? AMC doesn’t have to pay IMAX licensing fees. The screen was big and the audio was good. Is it worth the extra coin to go to it? That will depend on what movie you see it in.

Alice in Wonderland was the first movie shown on the first ETX screen in the world! Pleasure Island (why do they still call it that?) is where the screen is and where we saw it.

Alice in Wonderland on the other hand was worth every penny and I’ve been meaning to sit down and blog about it since that night. Unfortunately life has gotten in the way and I’ve gotten behind.

Shutter Island Review

23 Feb

The title is not lying, this is actually one of my good ol’ movie reviews! Trying to get back into the swing of blogging every once in a while. I hope you enjoy it!

On Sunday night, JC and I went to see Shutter Island (avoid Wikipedia links if you haven’t seen the movie and don’t want to read spoilers). It is really nice to have a new movie buddy and we’ve seen a few movies recently. None have really made me want to run out and blog though.

On Valentine’s Day I brought her to a wonderful dinner at Portobello Trattoria at Downtown Disney and then we caught a showing of Valentine’s Day. I enjoyed the movie and it has everyone in it. EVERYONE. Cute, romantic comedy and I believe a perfect Valentine’s Day movie. Don’t expect me to write a post about it and don’t expect me to buy the DVD. But if you want to rent a cute movie next Valentine’s Day? Check it out.

Back to the real reason for the post, Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. This movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and brought up an interesting thought on my part: Have I ever seen a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio? I can hear you, well, most of you. You just scoffed at the notion that I hadn’t seen a DiCaprio movie. I have never seen Titanic. Of course I’ve seen parts of the movie, but I’ve never seen it from beginning to end, something JC plans on changing. While working on this post I spent time going through every film on DiCaprio’s filmography (thanks to Wikipedia) and I can honestly answer the previous question. No, I have not seen any of Leo’s movies.

Didn’t get to see it on opening weekend, but last night JC and I were able to squeeze in a viewing of Disney’s newest princess movie. “The Princess and the Frog.”

Public Enemies Review

16 Jul

The other evening Rob and I went to see Johnny Depp’s newest film, “Public Enemies.” I had seen the trailers and read some reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, so I had an idea that it should be a pretty good movie. The movie stars Johnny Depp as John Dillinger, Christian Bale as FBI agent Melvin Purvis and Marion Cotillard as Dillinger’s girl (Billie Frechette). The movie is a very interesting mix of a mobster action movie, a suspense movie and a love story. Unfortunately, I just didn’t get it.

Bruno Review

12 Jul

I am not going to go through the effort to type the umlaut for this movie. Sorry. It just isn’t worth it…

Bruno stunk…

This movie was just another Sacha Baron Cohen masterpiece…wait that isn’t the word. Farce would probably work much better.

Don’t get me wrong. If you like homoerotic jokes and full frontal male nudity repeated for 90 minutes, you might like this movie. It is the same big gay joke over and over. Look he is having sex using a dildo attached to a stationary exercise bike. Look he is using that same contraption to rock his African baby’s crib. Look he is hanging out with rednecks and hitting on them. Look he is hitting on Ron Paul.

The funniest jokes are all in the previews, so keep your money in your pocket.

My biggest question is how in the world have these people not figured him out. With all the promotion Borat got, he looks EXACTLY the same except for the eyebrows and mustache. Easy fix, when his next movie starts filming and you see some crazy “foreign” guy that is being followed by cameras and looks just like Sacha Baron Cohen, ask him why his mom named him Sacha. They will stop filming and walk away. Done. If everyone would just do that the world would be a better place so we don’t have to see this SAME movie OVER and OVER and OVER again.

This movie also makes me question what exactly will get a NC-17 rating now? I have seen the NC-17 version of Showgirls and this was WAYYY worse.

Star Trek

8 May

I have been waiting to write this for over a week. I was lucky enough to be able to see a sneak preview of the new Star Trek film last week thanks to a new friend from Karaoke. I had been excited for the new film, but was also very worried. I have been a huge Star Trek fan for many years. No I don’t wear full uniforms or pointy ears out of the house, though, I did buy a new Star Trek logo shirt for last nights showing.

Yes, Star Trek officially opens today and I have already seen it twice. Once in the standard theater and once in IMAX. Last night a bunch of good friends and my family came out and I’m glad they all enjoyed it.

Quick Post

26 Apr

Sorry about the lack of a real post today. My mind has been elsewhere and don’t really want to discuss some of those issues here, so I have had a hard time coming up with things to write about.

On Thursday my new karaoke friend Sasha hooked me up with a free ticket (and great seats) to a sneak preview of the best movie ever. Yes, Star Trek!

All I will say today is that the movie is AWESOME!

I plan on writing a review that I will post on opening weekend. I also plan on seeing this movie again opening weekend, possibly in IMAX! May 8th! Mark your calanders!!!

Adventureland Review

7 Apr

My mom called this movie a “chick flick.” I don’t think it was a chick flick because it involved plenty of drugs and didn’t have any shopping!

Adventureland“is a new movie by Greg Mottola, the director of Superbad, starring a crop of new young actors. These aren’t the same old same old people from Superbad and Nick and Norahs. Sure, Bill Hader is there, and he is HILARIOUS in his role. Speaking of, when does this guy get his own movie? I mean come on! Forgetting Sarah Marshall he was the bomb and made me crack up multiple times in this movie too!
