Juno DVD Review

That is right, I am reviewing Juno. I, unlike 98% of America, had not seen this movie yet. On Monday I was at my local RedBox (where else would I be?) and entered my free promo code and rented Juno wondering if it could ever live up to the hype. All I had heard was good things about this movie and I personally loved Michael Cera in Superbad and Ellen Page was wonderful in Smart People. So I rented it, for free, took it home and watched it.

Big Nothing DVD Review

While I was doing a little research about Simon Pegg’s upcoming movies I found that there was one Simon Pegg movie that I had not seen, Big Nothing co-starring David Schwimmer. I tried to rent the movie, but RedBox didn’t have it. MovieStop ended up having a used copy for $6.50, so I own it! I wasn’t sure what to think because I love Simon Pegg and am really excited about his upcoming movies, but hadn’t heard anything about this movie. He will be Scotty in the new JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot and the final film in his “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy, The World Ends (Shuan of the Dead and Hot Fuzz being the first two) is coming next year. Pegg will also be doing another movie with Nick Frost called Paul, this movie intrigues me because supposedly the two will switch roles with Frost playing the straight man. I can’t wait! But why hadn’t I heard about Big Nothing?

How to Lose Friends & Alienate People Review

Last weekend I got to see one of my favorite actors star in a new movie. Simon Pegg stars in How to Lose Friends & Alienate People with Kirsten Dunst, Jeff Bridges, Megan Fox and Gillian Anderson. This movie is based on a memoir of the same name. I have not read the book but I do know that the movie is not true to the book, so don’t take what happens in this movie as something that actually happened.

Lazy Days

8 Oct

I’ve been lazy the last few days and haven’t really gotten any blogs written. I apologize for that and am attempting to get myself motivated to bring my crazy thoughts to the world wide web!

I want to remind everyone of the deal that is Redbox free movie mondays! I rented “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay” Monday and laughed my butt off. I’m not sure that movie is quite worthy of a full review but I needed a laugh and got one. Neil Patrick Harris again steals this movie with his crazy drug induced antics. If you saw and like the first one, check this one out too!

So keep checking my blog, I have a few planned to get me going again!

Run, Fat Boy, Run DVD Review

26 Sep

Tuesday, September 23rd, was my younger brother’s birthday. For his birthday we got together for dinner and a movie. Being that he doesn’t like leaving the house, we ordered Chili’s To Go and rented Run, Fat Boy, Run from Blockbuster. I haven’t rented a movie from Blockbuster in 10 years, but my mom refuses to even drive through Wal-Mart’s parking lot (she thinks Wal-Mart is evil). I tried to tell her that you don’t even have to go all the way into the store to use Redbox, but she refused.

Smart People DVD Review

25 Sep

First off, don’t forget about your ice cream!!!

As I told you the other day, I rented Smart People on DVD from Redbox. It was a great value (free)! All kidding aside, I enjoyed this movie. The movie stars Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Page (Juno) and Thomas Haden Church (Wings). The movie is a comedy, but isn’t one of those fall out of your seat comedies like Tropic Thunder. It is more of a “smart” comedy (if that makes any sense).

Redbox

It looks like this...Yours will actually be real however.

It looks like this...Yours will actually be real however.

My good friend and fellow blogger has posted before about this new movie rental service called Redbox. True to its name the service consists of large red boxes located at Wal-Marts and McDonalds around the country. The service is pretty simple. You go on-line and find a box, pick a movie, reserve it and pick it up at the box. Alternately, you can just go to the box, pick a movie and it spits it out. The normal rental is only $1 a day.

Burn After Reading – Mini-Review

19 Sep

So I just realized that I had not posted a review for a movie I saw recently, “Burn After Reading.” The reason being, it is a difficult movie for me to review because I don’t want to tell you much of anything about it to spoil anything! The movie has an all-star cast and I loved it. PERIOD! So go see it! Why are you still reading? This movie is a must see in my opinion! I would say that if you don’t want to see it in the the theater that you rent or PPV it when you can.

Hamlet 2 Review

Ok, I promise tomorrow will be back to Vacation coverage!

Hamlet 2 is about a horrible actor turned drama teacher (aren’t they all) who is forced to write an original play to save the drama department. He decides to write a long awaited sequel to Shakespeare’s work of art, Hamlet. For those of you who may have never seen nor heard about the original masterpiece I’ll give you a little hint: At the end, they all die. All of the main characters commit suicide or are murdered by the end.

The Rocker Review

Last night I went to see “The Rocker” a comedy about a washed up 80’s drummer helping out his nephews band by playing with them at the prom. Now, in the theater last night I felt old. I was born in 1981 and was well over the average age of the patron in the theater. However, these 14-16 year olds that filled the theater weren’t alive in the 80’s and had a hard time following some of the jokes. I’m sure they still enjoyed the movie, but having some knowledge of the 80’s could help.
