Bob’s Potatoes!

1 Mar

So a while back JC & I went to ride the Fun Spot Ferris Wheel (on a whim) and I saw a sign for a place called “Bob’s Potatoes” but it did not appear open (because it wasn’t yet). I got excited because I thought about this place we went to in Huntsville, TX with JC’s cousin. Potato Shack served just about everything and anything inside of a baked potato. It was AMAZING! If you are near Death Row in Texas, check it out!

After one quick google for Bob’s Potatoes I found nothing and forgot about it. Fast forward to a month or so later and we hear about it opening and find out it is NOTHING like the Potato Shack. Bob’s Potatoes is a Rosti Potato place. We decided to try it out.

First off, the guy in the logo is SUPER CUTE! He (and the name) reminds me of own of my guilty pleasure TV shows Bob’s Burgers. Now, I will say that unlike Bob’s Burgers there wasn’t a fire when they tried to open, their are no weird kids running around in capes and it’s not a burger joint!

Alright, I know a minute ago I said “rosti potato” like it’s no big deal. I’ll be honest, I had absolutely no idea what that meant when I read it for the first time. I googled it and came up with this on Wikipedia: Rosti. It’s a Swiss dish of potatoes in a frying pan and it looks very similar to what Bob’s serves, but it’s not exactly it!

Bob’s Potatoes is a “Brazilian Rosti” and they take the potatoes and form them around a variety of meats and veggies then fry them in a frying pan (just like the Swiss version). They had a ton of variety and on the recommendation of the gentleman working we decided to split a medium (they have two sizes) Carne Seca. Had the gentleman not said that the medium was big enough for two, we probably would have gotten a large or two mediums, but wow I wish I took a picture because it was HUGE!

Carne Seca is  Brazilian smoked beef with cheese and onion and it was all stuffed inside shredded potato. JC and I looked at this huge mound of potato that was in front of us and were like WOW! I dug into it and it was delicious! I love potatoes and this was amazing. It’s so simple, yet so delicious. Really, their medium dish easily served JC & I for about $12 total. Awesomeness and Delicious.

To add to the awesomeness they had Mexican Coke! Yes, Mexican Coke! Real coke! It’s made with sugar instead of corn and comes in a glass bottle! We also got some free soup (to try because they have JUST opened). The soup was delicious. I have absolutely no idea what it was though. If I had to guess it had spinach and some sort of squash? Man, I really wish their website worked.

Now, they have a website, but it is obviously not quite ready for prime time. Bob’s Potatoes is a one of a kind place to me. I’ve never seen any place like it and definitely not in the touristy area of Orlando that I live. I wish their website had the menu up so you could see the options they have!

This is an example of a small, family owned business that is just starting out. It is a great little concept and I hope they can survive. If you live in Orlando or are visiting you should check it out! It is located in the strip mall at the corner of International Drive and Kirkman Road. It is near some great outlet shopping and Fun Spot! Check it out!

Awesome Christmas Present

6 Jan

This year I got an AWESOME Christmas present from the beautiful JC that I’ve used multiple times already and can see myself using it nearly everyday! She got me a Glass Tea Maker from Teavana and a selection of  Tea to make in it!

Tea Maker in Action!

Above is the first brew which is a delicious black tea. Below is a fruity blend:

Fruity action

This maker holds 34 ounces of tea, and strains as you pour! Just bring the water to temperature and pour over the tea. Best part about this great loose leaf tea, is you can get more than one steeping! More than once I’ve brewed up some hot tea, drank it, added more hot water then threw it in the fridge for iced tea the next day!

Awesome, awesome awesome gift! Thanks sweetie! I love you!!

Birthday 2010!

10 Jun

It was awesome! Benihana was very yummy (though maybe not as good as Kobe) and Pat O’Briens at City Walk was a good time! But most of all the people were awesome. Thanks to everyone who came out or texted me or hit me up on Facebook.

Here is the official Benihana photo:

Twenty-nine Years Ago the World Changed

6 Jun

Yup, you have it right. Twenty-nine years ago in a hospital in Springfield, Illinois a young woman was making history. She was giving birth to her first, and best, child. A ravishing young baby who would turn out to be one of the great blog minds on the internet.

Yup, that is right. It is my twenty-ninth birthday!! This also means I’m starting my thirtieth year! WOW! Mom, you are old! j/k

Just imagine this, only with a Benihana hat!

Tonight some family, friends and I will be hitting up Benihana! It is my first trip to the “original” as I have only eaten at Kobe (like last year!). Kobe is REALLY good, but I have to try out Benihana and see if they do anything to make them special. Oh yea, and they give you $30 to spend if its your birthday!

Chick-Fil-A Spicy Chicken Sandwich

2 Jun

This week Chick-Fil-A has been doing a special preview of their upcoming Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Fans (or should we call them “likes” now?) on Facebook were encouraged to sign up for special reservation slots at their local Chick-Fil-A’s to check out the new sandwich that officially launches on June 7th.

I, of course, signed up JC and I for the Altamonte drive-thru Chick-Fil-A. Yes, if you haven’t been there it is a Chick-Fil-A set up with double drive-thru’s and no dining area. Looks just like a Checkers (or Rally’s depending on where you live).

Pretzel M&M’s

15 May

The other day at Wal-Mart I saw that M&M’s have a new (to me) product! Pretzel M&M’s.

In a quick count in my head that gives us 6. Plain, peanut, peanut butter, almond, coconut and now pretzel. Of course I’m not counting the dark chocolate version of the plain and peanut varieties.

Not my pic. I stole it 🙂

Shrek Twinkies

12 May

I was at Wal-Mart the other day when I saw some Shrek branded Twinkies. I couldn’t believe my eyes. GREEN Twinkies.

Now I haven’t had a Twinkie in many many years, but I couldn’t pass up the $2 price tag. So I decided to bring this freak of not nature to you, my readers!

Southwest Mac & Cheese

30 Apr

A while back Serious Eats posted a recipe for Southwest Mac & Cheese with a Cornbread Crust. A light bulb went off in my head when I saw it because I had been trying to find a way to use one of my Christmas presents. My parents brought me some pasta from Pappardelle’s Pasta at Pike Place Market in Seattle.

They got me the Southwestern Blend and I thought it would be perfect in that recipe. The pasta was amazing. The green jalapeno pieces had a really nice kick!

This was a fun cooking experience with JC, so you will see her in some of the photos. I also forgot to take my normal lineup photo. So here is a photo of the yummy pasta:
