Sansa Clip 8GB from Woot!

14 Apr

On April 1st Woot! was having  their “Woot! Your Own Adventure” fun on their main site with many good deals available if you could find them! I ended up purchasing on one of their sister sites, Sellout.Woot! Sellout is a partnership with Yahoo! shopping and was recently incorporated into Deals.Woot! Confused yet?

Bottom line is that I purchased an 8GB Sansa clip for use when I run (especially when there comes a time I need to run on my own). The Sansa clip appears to be perfect for running since it is ITTY BITTY! But more on that later

I was excited when I opened the mailbox and saw this:

Running…Part Four!

10 Apr

Yes, I am still doing my running! You can read about my how I’ve done here, here, here and here. I’m still not breaking any speed or distance records but I think I am doing better and I’m actually starting to enjoy it. It still isn’t one of my favorite things to do, but I’m not dreading it quite as much as when I started.

This week I did something that I’m not sure I’ve EVER done in my life. I ran an entire mile non-stop. Again, it wasn’t very fast, but I did it. I walked another mile but we didn’t do any more running that day. This was mainly due to some shin pain I had been experiencing. In fact, my right shin has been recently my main problem and yesterday we might have just figured it out.

Since I am WAY less than athletic I really don’t know what muscles/ligaments hurt or what a pain really is. I just know that it hurts. It just felt like a tight burning pain in my lower shin that would build up my leg. Yesterday while running JC happened to be complaining about a very similar feeling. This is very unusual since she normally can run circles around me.

She determines that her shoe was laced a little bit too tight. She loosened hers up and felt better…so I did the same.

Sure enough I was able to continue running without the pain returning. So apparently I’m really dumb and couldn’t figure out something that simple, but oh well. I’m hoping that by loosening up my laces a bit I’ll be able to extend my running abilities.

Overall I think we did a good job yesterday. We ran for 20 minutes in 5 minute increments and walked for 3 minutes in between. The walk to Cranes Roost Park is about .6 miles and we managed three laps around the lake. By my math that is a total walk/jog of 4.2 miles! Including our walk to and from along with our stretching time we totaled 1.5 hours of activity! Best part? I’m not dying today!

In fact, I feel good!

Running…Part Three

26 Mar

So, since the last time I wrote about Running (Part 1 Part 2) I have had a setback. If you follow my Twitter (upper right corner of the page) you would know that already though! After our run near the Convention Center I had a couple days of bad pain in my left knee.

It made it difficult to walk, let alone run. We made an attempt a few days later and after nearly collapsing I took a seat and watched JC run a complete mile around Cranes Roost. By the time we got home it felt like my knee had exploded. JC helped me with a bag of ice and a pillow.

Running Shoes!

16 Mar

If you’ve read my blog recently you know that I’ve started running with my girlfriend JC. You haven’t? Well, I’ll wait.

I’m waiting for you to read “Running” and “Running…Part Two“.

Done? Good, now we are all up to speed.

For my entire adult life I’ve worn shoes that met two basic criteria: 1.) They were cheap and 2.) They looked decent. Unfortunately for running they weren’t the best. This led us to go shoe shopping on Sunday. Since I am still frugal we decided it best to go to the outlet malls and use coupons!

Maybe in the future I’ll have enough money to go to Fleet Feet and get some “custom fit” shoes. For now, outlets + coupons will have to do.

Running…Part Two

14 Mar

So I told you last week JC and I have started doing some running and we have continued to run about every other day. We’ve run a few times at Cranes Roost Lake at Uptown Altamonte and once at Lake Eola in downtown Orlando.

The weather in Orlando has been cold recently. REALLY cold! So most of our runs have been in sub 60 degree (or below) weather but last night we decided to run in spite of the weather. Cold, windy rain.

Because of the weather (and I4 traffic) we decided to run near the Orange County Convention Center (where I work) on Universal Boulevard. The rain was pretty bad at times and since it had been raining for two days there were some big puddles to fight.

We parked at the brand new Publix and ran down to Pointe Orlando and back. It would have been a great path if the sidewalk wasn’t missing in the middle (lame). We started by doing our alternating jogging/walking. This time doing 4 minutes of jogging and 3 minutes of walking, but on the way back we were soaked and ended up doing a lot more walking.

Our shoes were just soaked and got really heavy so we couldn’t really put as much jogging in as we would have liked to. The last time we went out we jogged a total of 21 minutes around Cranes Roost!

I still have some soreness and pain the day after our runs but overall I am feeling MUCH better about this whole running thing. Every time we run I feel like I can go a little further.

I don’t have anything to announce at this point, but we are definitely talking about doing some actual organized runs here later this year!

Running

3 Mar

Last week JC told me that she wants to run a 5k. It also happens that my friend, The Keeper of Monkeys, is running in the WDW Royal Family 5k this weekend. After some thought I decided that it would be a good thing for me to start some running.

While thinking about going running I realized that I probably wouldn’t run very well in jeans or jean shorts. Seeing that I don’t own “work out” clothes I took a trip to Wal-Mart and got some cheap stuff. Shorts, long pants and a shirt all made with some of that cool dry-tec stuff.

After much dread on my part we took our first run last night. We walked over to Cranes Roost Park at Uptown Altamonte and fought the wind. We decided that I probably wouldn’t have a heart attack and die if we took it slow and alternated some running/jogging with some walking. We ran for three minutes and then walked for four minutes. All told we ended up running for 18 minutes and had a total walk/run of over an hour (including the walk to and from the park).

I won’t lie. It was tough. Towards the end of each of the running sessions my legs were burning and I was out of breath. I did survive however!

When I woke up this morning I was pleasantly surprised by only a dull pain in my quads. I was expecting my full body to hurt. I did my normal shower and dressing routine and then drove to work. That is when it got me.

When I got out of the car I thought my legs were broken. As the morning has progressed my ankles, legs, shoulder and back have all been stiff and had a dull pain. I’m guessing this is what happens when you run for the first time since school.

I feel good about what I was able to do and plan on continuing with the support of my beautiful girlfriend. I’m not a fan of the pain, but am hoping that it will get better as I go (probably just wishful thinking). I’ll try to keep this updated on my running progress. Our next “run date” is Thursday! AHHHH

EA Sports Active Week 1

13 Jul

Let me start out by saying I’m not sure that I will be turning this into a weekly thing and I’m also not sure if I will be bringing back my Wii Fit weekly post, but I wanted to show that I’m still trying to sweat off the fatness and for my birthday I received a new Wii game to use. My parents bought me EA Sports Active (a game that my mom is also using).

EA Sports Active!

That is my main page. Yesterday I got only 50% because I didn’t spend the extra time to fill out my “fitness survey” that asks you about what you ate and how much exercise you got the day before.

Wow! Fifteen weeks!!! Everyone is probably getting bored/annoyed with my weekly posts seeing me lose a little bit of weight here and there in the hopes of not being revolting anymore. I was given a suggestion yesterday on how to possibly become more attractive and I bet it would be a quick easy way to lose some quick weight…but I’m NOT cutting my damn hair. Eventually I’ll find someone who likes it…I hope.

If you are new to my posts you can view my past progress from Day One, Week One, Week Two, Week Three, Week Four, Week Five, Week Six, Week Seven, Week Eight, Week Eleven, Week Twelve, Week Thirteen and Week Fourteen!
