BK Whopper Bar

14 Apr

Recently opened at Universal Studios Florida’s City Walk is a new “food court” located upstairs, above the theater. Located in this “food court” is a new Panda Express, Moe’s Southwest Grill and a BK Burger Bar. The Panda Express and Moe’s are identical in menu and setup to their normal non-theme park brethren. The BK Burger Bar is different and new. It isn’t just a Burger King and it is the first of its kind!

So what makes the BK Burger bar different? Well, first off it has a much more limited menu:

The menu boards are digital screens with moving pictures, not easy to photograph for me.

The menu is based around, well, the Whopper. You can order a single, double or Steakhouse XT Whopper and choose from any of their toppings. There are a LOT more toppings than you would normally find at a run of the mill BK. Those prices are ALL for meals (medium soda and fries) PLUS pass-holders (like me!) get a discount, so the prices were surprisingly not bad.

In the middle are the “Bar Favorites” which include the Angry Whopper (which I have already reviewed) and other limited time BK Whoppers like the Shroom & Swiss (remember those lame commercials?). I decided on the Bourbon Whopper, I really would have preferred a Whopper Jr, but they don’t have them.

The bun was BURSTING with toppings. Tomatoes, lettuce, cheddar cheese, mayo, bacon, onion rings and the bourbon sauce spilling into the box.

I know everyone, this is NOT on my diet, but every once in a while a writer must do things for the betterment of their readers that aren’t good for them.

The important part was how does it taste? Really good! The bourbon sauce had some nice flavor with just a touch of sweetness that went with the charbroiled Whopper very well. I’m not a huge fan of the onion ring on burger craze (see Hardee’s Western Bacon Burger). It makes the burger unstable and could possibly make a mess.

BK has always been “have it your way” but this Burger Bar takes that one step further. You have more choices on how to build your Whopper “Your Way” and due to the limited menu, the food comes out really quick. The only problem I found was that at early dinner time, there wasn’t enough seating. Possibly due to the people holding their tables while waiting for their friends to join them from Disney World, I assume. I mean, I waited for a table, sat, took pictures ate and cleaned up before they did anything. They just sat their at an empty table with no food or drink.

Next time you are at City Walk check out the new dining options!
