Pepsi wants your money!

22 Oct

Pepsi has decided that the industry standard 12-pack needed improving. By improving Pepsi decided that their 12-pack should only have 8 cans! I have many MANY issues with this new packaging starting with the price. Right now these “8-Packs” are ON SALE at Wal-Mart for $2.50 (marked regular price is $3.99). About every other week Pepsi would have a 2 for $5 or 4 for $11 on their 12-packs. So do the math, they are charging you the same sale price, but for 1/3 less product!!

Oh, but don’t worry because Pepsi has a larger size for you! An 18-pack! Oh wait, the 18-pack was $7.88 (on sale) while the 24-pack’s right next to them were $6.49 (not on sale). Ooops! I did end up purchasing a 24-pack of Dr. Pepper with these really cool football stylized cans!

Just dont throw it!

Just don't throw it!

I did say I had many issues, so I should give you another example. In 2002 Coca-Cola introduced the first innovation to the 12-pack in two decades (According to this article) which allowed the 12-pack to fit PERFECTLY in consumer fridges called “Fridge Pack.” Perfectly shaped to dispense the product efficiently, Pepsi Co. stole it quickly. The new 8-packs are also in “Fridge Pack” form, but there is a problem! They leave 5 or 6 inches of empty, useless, space behind the pack! And the 18-pack is 3 cans high so it won’t fit on that short shelf everyone has in their fridge.

So what is the reason behind this? It has GOT to be money. Pepsi wants to raise prices (Pepsis are $3.25 for a 20 ounce at the convention center) and by giving you less product for a SLIGHTLY lower price they think us stupid Americans will buy it!

I am calling for a protest! DO NOT purchase the new 8-packs! This affects me greatly in Orlando, because Pepsi bottles my favorite Dr. Pepper is bottled and distributed by Pepsi in this region. Yes, Dr. Pepper is still independent of the big two, but it has shown up in the dreaded 8-packs at my Wal-Mart!

Yeah I saw them in the ads this week and was NOT happy. We mostly buy coke products but it is only time I’m sure before they also become the same.

For the record, Joe, 8 is 2/3s of 12, not 1/3.

Joe – Hence it reading “1/3 less product”
