Halloween Horror Nights 18

Saturday Night my mom, brother and his friend Henry went with me to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Orlando. This is HHN’s 18th year at Universal Studios Orlando and it continues to amaze me in a few different areas. This years theme was “Reflections of Fear” and starred “Bloody Mary.” The website over the last few months has been building up a whole back story about Mary being a doctor and at first accidentally killing her patients. Eventually she goes insane (possibly schizophrenic) and begins killing them on purpose.

If you don’t know, HHN is a collection of haunted houses and “scare zones” built around Universal Studios. These houses are in tents and sound stages mixed in and around mainly backstage areas of the theme park. As with any good haunted house there are tight pathways, very little light and lots of noise. Universal are experts at using flashing/strobing light and darkness to hide people and expose them at exactly the right time.

“Reflections of Fear” (the name of the haunted house) was located on the side of the Jaws attraction in the support buildings there and was heavily themed to match the back story online. You enter through her office which looked EXACTLY like it did on the website. As you made your way through the house there were multiple scenes of “doctors” performing surgeries on patients. My favorite was the girl laying on her stomach with the “doctor” tearing out her spine. Very graphic!

My favorite house was actually the first we visited (so it was still light out) and it looked like this:

Scary

Scary

This house was “Scary Tales: Once Upon a Nightmare” and had room after room of your favorite fairy tales done completely wrong. Alice was literally tearing the intestines out of the rabbit in one room! My favorite story was when we entered a room full of corn stalks and my mom says “why are we in a corn field” and a character on cue jumped out in her face and says “We’re off to see the wizard!” Around the next corner was a killer tin man and angry lion.

The most realistic house was “Creatures!” and was based in a hillbilly town. You enter through a hillbilly bar with a large man with a mullet talking to you. You walk through trailers and clothes line with flannel shirts hanging. I don’t recall any “creatures” just bloody and crazy hillbillies! It really felt real.

The amount of work and detail they put into each of these houses every year is amazing. The scareactors are awesome every night and LOVE to pick on obvious marks like my mom. Universal even makes the different houses smell right!

Entrance to the house “Dead Exposure”:

Scared yet?

Scared yet?

All in all it was an awesome night as we were able to hit all eight houses and enjoyed them all! If you get a chance and like screaming like a girl (like my mom) then go check it out!
