ESPN8 “The Ocho”

20 Jun

If you’ve seen the movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” you will know that the ADAA’s Dodgeball Open Invitational was aired on ESPN8 “The Ocho.” This was a jab by the films makers at the sheer volume of ESPN channels.

The video above is from the movie and I love the line “If it’s almost a sport, we’ve got it here.”

You may be thinking to yourself “ESPN8, there will never be 8 ESPNS!” And you would be wrong. The country is shockingly close to having to deal with the repercussions of “The Ocho.”

ESPN’s current lineup is:

  1. ESPN
  2. ESPN2
  3. ESPNews
  4. ESPN Classic
  5. ESPN U
  6. ESPN Deportes
  7. ESPN360 ( I know its just a website, but they show live games and advertise it like a real network).

And rumour has it ESPN3 is coming! If it is an all new channel that would make it ESPN’s 8th channel. “The Ocho” is coming!!! Most of the rumours say it may be ESPN Classic revamped into ESPN3 rather than a new channel, but we can dream of “The Ocho” right?

What would they show on ESPN3? Soccer, hockey, WNBA and low level college basketball games. Hopefully it will also mean removing “sports” such as World Series of Pokerand World Series of Domino’s from ESPN and ESPN2.

I think if they have an 8th ESPN…they should just call it “The Ocho.” And seriously….the World Series of Dominoes???

ESPN aired the WSoD one year. I saw it. It wasn’t a very good draw since most Americans don’t know anything about competitive dominoes and most of the competitors didn’t speak english.

Before watching it, I didn’t know that dominoes was a “team sport”!

My teens at the library love to play Dominoes and they take it pretty dang seriously. I wonder if they too saw it on TV first.
